From Humble Beginnings: The Inspiring Story of Josh Gilyard

Josh Gilyard, a second-year running back for the Dallas Cowboys of the BL, has quickly become a fan favorite thanks to his remarkable skills and relentless work ethic. Drafted as the 24th overall pick in the Season 43 draft, Gilyard played college football at USF. A versatile and speedy back, Gilyard is known for his exceptional ability to catch passes out of the backfield, making him an invaluable asset for the Cowboys.

Born and raised in Selma, Alabama, Gilyard’s love for football began at a young age. He started playing the sport in middle school and quickly gained the attention of his coaches and peers due to his natural talent and dedication.

Growing up in a low-income household with his mother, two sisters, and grandmother, Gilyard learned the importance of hard work and determination from a young age. His mother, Sandra Gilyard, worked multiple jobs to support the family and always encouraged Josh to pursue his dreams. “Josh has always been a hard worker, both on and off the field,” Sandra explains. “He never let our circumstances define him or hold him back. I couldn’t be prouder of the young man he’s become.”

Gilyard’s high school football coach, Larry Simmons, recalls an unforgettable moment during his senior year when he played through a sprained ankle, helping his team win a crucial game. “Josh showed tremendous heart and determination that night,” Simmons says. “It’s that kind of spirit and resilience that sets him apart from other athletes.”

While attending USF, Gilyard continued to hone his skills as a running back and became a key player for the team. His college coach, Tony Richardson, praises Gilyard’s work ethic and dedication: “Josh was never one to shy away from a challenge. He was always striving to improve, and it’s no surprise that he’s found success in the BL.”

As a second-year player for the Cowboys, Gilyard has become an every-down back and reliable safety valve for QB Damon Chambers. He has quickly earned a reputation as a formidable force on the field, consistently making big plays when it matters most.

Josh Gilyard’s journey from humble beginnings in Selma to professional football stardom is a testament to the power of perseverance, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to one’s dreams. As his career continues to flourish, there’s no doubt that Gilyard will leave a lasting legacy on and off the field.
